Igor Burakovsky on the Ukraine Prosperity Plan for “Novyny LIVE”
According to European media reports, the European Commission has circulated to EU member state governments a draft “Ukraine Prosperity Plan” – a document outlining a ten-year vision for Ukraine’s recovery and an accelerated path toward European Union membership.
The document is said to envision Ukraine’s gradual transition from dependence on external assistance to self-sustaining economic growth. It also sets out a financing strategy through 2040, including proposals to mobilize $500 billion in public and private capital, as well as an additional €100 billion from the European Commission through budget support and investment guarantees. According to the document’s authors, these measures could help unlock a further €207 billion in investment for Ukraine’s economy.
What does the plan actually propose, and how realistic are its ambitions? Igor Burakovsky, Chair of the Board of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting, shares his analysis.
