Implementation of TEN-T road standards in Ukraine

Implementing dedicated-lane standards in line with Regulation (EU) 2024/1679 would improve road safety, reduce accidents, support Ukraine’s integration into the EU, and facilitate access to TEN-T funding. This is a large-scale strategic project requiring an estimated €110 billion in investment and up to 25 years to complete. Based on the experience of Slovakia and other Eastern European countries, the average modernisation cost is around €15 million per kilometre, with a realistic implementation pace of up to 250 km per year. With stable funding and international support, these plans could be completed by 2050, integrating Ukraine into the European transport network.
