Ukraine on the road to the EU: realities and prospects through the lens of Polish experience

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is not merely a formal procedure, but a far-reaching process of political, economic, institutional, and societal transformation. Against the backdrop of Russia’s aggression and the changing European security landscape, Ukraine’s future EU membership is of strategic importance for both Ukraine and the EU.

The report examines the key challenges and opportunities Ukraine faces on its path to EU membership, from the geopolitical context and domestic conditions to accession criteria and the reforms required. Particular attention is paid to the rule of law, the fight against corruption, deregulation, economic modernization, and strengthening state institutions.

A key part of the study is the experience of Poland, which joined the EU in 2004. Comparing Poland’s experience with Ukraine’s current situation helps identify relevant practices, account for important differences, and draw lessons for Ukraine’s European integration.
