Veronika Movchan
Research Director, Head of the Center for Economic Research
Veronika Movchan has been working at the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) since 2001.
Her main research interests include trade policy, issues related to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European Union (EU), regional integration, non-tariff measures, and economic policy modelling.
She earned an MA in Economics with distinction from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy/EERC and completed her postgraduate studies at the same university, specializing in economic and mathematical modelling. She gained professional experience at the Harvard Institute for International Development (Kyiv Office) and the World Bank Office in Kyiv. She also completed research fellowships at Stanford University (USA) and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin, Germany).
For nearly two decades, her research has focused on Ukraine’s European integration. Initially, her work concentrated on trade integration, later expanding to broader aspects of Ukraine’s economic integration with the European Union. Since 2022, her research has focused on Ukraine’s EU accession process and the economic implications of membership.
Over the past decade, she has also conducted extensive research on European integration in the Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans. She has led research teams and served as a trade policy expert in numerous international projects implemented across Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.
She is an Associate Consultant at Berlin Economics GmbH (Germany), a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of IAMO (Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies), and serves on the editorial boards of the journal Economic Systems and the VoxUkraine platform.
