Commentary by Oleksandra Betliy for “KYIV FM” radio on challenges in the construction sector
How will Ukraine’s reconstruction unfold, and what are the biggest obstacles holding back the construction sector today? In the Open Space programme on “KYIV FM Radio”, Oleksandra Betliy, Lead Expert at the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER), discussed the key challenges facing the construction industry. The conversation focused on the factors shaping the pace of Ukraine’s reconstruction, including the impact of the war, limited financing, the capacity of construction companies and local communities to implement projects, shortcomings in the project review system, and regulatory barriers that discourage international companies from entering the Ukrainian market.
Betliy also highlighted the need to reform construction policy by simplifying procedures, improving the quality of project review, and aligning Ukraine’s regulatory framework with European standards. According to her, addressing these challenges is a prerequisite for the effective implementation of Ukraine’s large-scale reconstruction programme.
