Igor Burakovsky
Chair of the Board, Professor at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy
Since 2002, Igor Burakovsky has led IER as Chairman of the Board. In this role, he provides overall strategic leadership for the Institute, coordinates its research projects, and serves as a leading expert in the preparation of the Institute’s analytical publications. His professional activities include advising the Government of Ukraine on economic policy and contributing as an expert and lecturer to a wide range of academic and professional training programmes. He is also a frequent commentator for Ukrainian and international media.
His areas of expertise include international economics and trade, Ukraine’s economic policy, cooperation with international economic institutions, European integration, and economic reforms. He is the author of numerous academic and analytical publications on economic issues.
Igor Burakovsky graduated with honours from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He subsequently earned both his Candidate of Economic Sciences and Doctor of Economic Sciences degrees and was awarded the academic title of Professor in 2004. Over the course of his academic career, he has taught international economics and trade, economic policy, and economic reform at universities and in professional training programmes in Ukraine and abroad.
He completed research and professional fellowships in the United Kingdom (University of Birmingham), Japan (Economic Planning Agency and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan), and the United States (Fulbright Program Fellowship, Stanford University). Prior to his appointment as Chair of the Board of IER, he served as Senior Economist and Project Manager at the Kyiv Center of the EastWest Institute.
Professor Burakovsky was awarded the Order of Merit, Third Class, for his significant contribution to Ukraine’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
